DJI Avata: Everything You Need to Know about the Upcoming FPV Drone
Oh man, it looks like DJI is about to release the Avata, its next-generation FPV drone! I originally heard that it would be released in July, but it looks like it's coming sooner than that. This will be a replacement for the DJI FPV, which DJI introduced earlier this year. And it looks like the launch of the Avata will coincide with the launch of the DJI Goggles 2 and the DJI FPV Goggles V2. How cool is that? I can't wait to check it out!
DJI's Avata drone is a highly anticipated product, and recent leaked photos provide a detailed look at its design. The drone has four propellers arranged in a 2+2 configuration, with propeller guards to protect against damage. The camera and battery are housed in the middle of the drone, and it has one camera lens, like the Mini 3 Pro.

Here's what DroneXL says about the camera: it's got a one-axis gimbal and electronic stabilisation (which DJI calls RockSteady stabilisation), plus it offers a 155-degree field of view. Apparently the camera is the same 48 MP sensor that you'll find in the Mini 3 Pro. So the DJI Avata should be able to capture 4K video. Low-latency HD video transmission to DJI Goggles 2 is also apparently a thing this drone can do.
DJI is offering the Avata in two combo packs, the Fly Smart Combo for $1,168 with the FPV Goggles V2 and DJI V1 Motion Controller, and the Pro-View Combo for $1,388, which includes the DJI Goggles 2 instead of the FPV Goggles V2. The drone alone is $629, and the DJI Goggles 2 are $649.
DroneXL reports that the DJI Goggles 2 Motion Combo will be priced at US$759. This bundling includes the DJI Goggles 2 and the V1 Motion Controller. It is speculated that DJI will officially unveil the Avata and its related products on August 23. There is a possibility that people will be able to pre-order the drone on that date. As of now, there is no information regarding the pricing in other regions. It is reasonable to assume that DJI will make the Avata and its accessories available globally on August 23, and not only in the US.
